Description

As with other games in the series, Mega Man II is a standard side-scrolling platformer that lets the player take control of the hero Mega Man as he traverses stages and defeats various enemies and bosses. The player is able to run, jump, and shoot as in the previous game, but is now able to slide along the ground as well.

Mega Man II for the Gameboy has an unfortunate glitch in the coding that plays the music at a higher pitch than intended. Tpcool on YouTube has remade this soundtrack with higher quality instruments and pitch corrections. I suggest you give it a listen, as it truely brings out the quality of the compositions this game has to offer: https://www.youtube.com/embed/lpaUbqwhMTI

As for the music, besides the obvious pitch problem, it's really solid. Each track is composed in a way that references and reminds you of the original theme that was used for the particular Robot Master's stage in the NES games, which is quite clever. Something odd I noticed about the soundtrack is its commitment to a theme of urgency. Almost every song in the game feels dramatic, like it's leading up to the final battle. So in a way, it's sorta like every stage has "final stage" music. It's certainly unique, and it gives this game a different feel from the rest of the Mega Man games. The one complaint I have is that most of the songs are too short.

I recently found out that the internet still isn't sure if JSH or Thinking Rabbit developed this game.
(It's Thinking Rabbit by the way)

Blare this crap out in the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and the Normans would retreat from England from their ears bleeding due to its high pitch.

I found this game's composer's https://web.archive.org/web/20130208023018/http://kamomellia.com/jp_game.htm - website, which mentioned that because he wasn't interested in video games at the time, he didn't know that Mega Man was a huge franchise.

At least he apologized.

This game would have so many bangers if it weren't for the pitch/odd dissonance.
