Description

The (mostly) complete gamerip for Mario Kart Wii.

The following tracks couldn't be extracted from the game files (they were in a format my tools couldn't extract) and were pulled from the OST for completeness sake:
4-15. Mario Kart Channel Menu
4-16. Wi-Fi Menu
4-17. Ranking
4-18. Super Star

If you're bored, I left a few comments on some of the files if you wanna read them.

This game is playable on Wii U due to the platform's backward compatibility, however, it was never actually released on Wii U or made available via Virtual Console. For this reason please do not edit this album to (re)add Wii U to the list of platforms.

Idk if I'm the only one here who noticed this but the backing synth around the 20 second mark of Dry Dry Ruins was reused in the Swordplay VS screen on Wii Sports Resort.

Put her down is killing me lmao, did you take it out to your yard and told it to look at the flower while you shot it on the head or what 😭

It's a shame it died like that, tho

You mentioning it like that is making me imagine it like a AVGN skit lmao.

I had an Xbox One S that died after six years. I unfortunately had to put her down three years back. Aside from my Xbox One S, I never had a console that died on me (retro consoles included)

my Wii's actually dying due to overheating video component, so I'm restarting that game all over on a Wii U, not bad since saved data was barely as much as I could get it in a week now

My very first was either DS or Double Dash. I didn't get to play Mario Kart Wii until a year ago surprisingly.

Why Did They Put Mission Mode Music Here? And, Follow Up question, Where did They Even Get The Music From?

The Boss Battle music is used in Galaxy Colosseum, which is only found in tournaments. The Boss Clear fanfare was leftover in the game files when they scrapped Mission Mode and was later found by the community.

The layer 4 of the main menu theme reminds me of that low-quality meme where there was a funeral with a person in a Sonic mascot being one of the people carrying the basket with that same song playing

Grew up with this game. Has one of the best video game scores of all time in my personal opinion. also I'd like to announce that i ain't seeing no mega mushy/chain chomp file. I honestly say that the Wii that i have doesn't insert/eject the disc properly, which leads to s risk of damaging the disc being used.

Overall Review:
Gameplay: 10/10
Soundtrack: 10/10

I'd like to point out that the music for the Mega Mushroom is incorrectly labeled as 'Chain Chomp'.

Thank you for catching that. I admit I am not super familiar with Wii, and one of the gamerips I viewed had it mislabeled. I will try to get that fixed soon.

There are four different versions of the online menu theme, why are they still merged into one track?

MayorBryce just explained this in the description that he was unable to extract the files for the online menu theme, so he had to use the one that's taken from the Platinum Soundtrack right now.

Personally, I prefer Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8(DX), and the arcade games over MKWii but okay

Honestly

Super Mario Kart is just one of those games that haven't aged well.
Mario Kart 64 is like an unfair game when you try to 100%
and Mario Kart DS is literally just nothing but you praying to the RNG gods that luck is in your favor.

so... I personally prefer Mario Kart 7, 8(DX), MKWii and GPDX over Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, and Mario Kart ds.

(the other games that I haven't mentioned are games that I have not played before or barely touched.)
(however if I were given an option between the 3 games I just made a short rant about, I would choose Mario kart DS, as I find it the least unfair single player wise. The other 2 are just full of CPU cheating.)

When I said Wii RR was the worst in the series, I forgot N64 RR existed I guess.

I mean, the music for it is iconic, but that's about it for the N64 one.

That's a negative thing though... Plus, out of all the Rainbow Roads, the one for Wii is by far the most challenging and memorable in its obstacles. I don't really find a track being long and offering almost nothing interesting as very memorable, but that's subjective I guess.

When I said gimmick, I meant it as in "something people will remember the track for". Everyone remembers N64 RR for being annoyingly long, while Wii's RR doesn't have that one thing that makes it stand out from the other Rainbow Roads.

I don't understand exactly how being long is a gimmick, but okay..? The thwomps are more of an obstacle too, and appear in a lot of the other games. I will admit that they tend to show up more often in the first game. Wii introduced tricking and the blue ramps, and the tricking at least has become a major part of the series. (For extra speed and such.) Not only that, but bikes as well. And when thinking about DS, I usually associate it with the Mission Mode, which I wish they would bring back, and the introduction of retro tracks.

Oh, I forgot it supported pro controllers because you have to use the d-pad to use tricks. Also, the main reason I think Wii RR is the weakest is because it lacks a memorable gimmick (SMK had thwomps, 64 was long, MKSC had the jump pads for ultra shortcuts, DS had anti-gravity before anti-gravity, etc.) As for the saturation of the rainbow road, I guess we just see colors differently.

I personally prefer the skill-based gameplay of the earlier entries (SMK~MKSC), over the luck-based chaotic party game that the recent games have become. I still think both are great approaches, but Wii just takes the luck based elements too far for me.

I agree that I prefer a more skill based experience. It's one of the reasons why I've moved away from Mario Kart to an extent and focused more on the F-Zero series. But I'd prefer not to go on a rant about why I prefer F-Zero to Mario Kart, so I'll stop myself here. 😓

I'd say that Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, and Mario Kart Super Circuit aren't the greatest... I think that their quality can be ranked by their releases (Super being the worst of the three and Super Circuit being the best of the three.) in a way. Double Dash is the first Mario Kart game I would consider good, with the first three being sorta mid. Not bad, but kinda just okay.

You can use the pro controller with it... That's actually the only way I'm able to play the game. Also, I'd say that it has the best Rainbow Road, and I can hardly see how it lacks color... I'd still put the game under 8, DS, and Double Dash as a whole.
