It sounds like the first split-second of audio is cut off on several songs?
Must be an issue on your end.

I might be missing the point. But are these supposed to emulate what it sounds like on real hardware?
No. That would only be applicable to the JP past mixes anyway since everything else in Sonic CD is pre-rendered redbook audio. The past mixes are based on better sounding .vgm renders.
The point behind my Re-Engineered Sonic CD release, and generally most of my releases, is that the music is meant to sound more audiophile friendly. Better dynamic range, proper edits, loops, unused content, highest quality audio possible, declicks and other audio processing if applicable. Furthermore they usually aim to be as complete as possible though the arrangements do actually vary since some are more geared towards original soundtrack arrangement length rather than complete soundtrack. But the Sonic CD release here is as complete as possible and if I remember correct the only thing I excluded were some low quality instrumental mixes of some tracks from some old remaster version that incorporated them due to vocal licensing issues.
This kind of information you can get from my Squid-Board thread and the documentations that ship with releases downloaded through my cloud. A link to the thread you can find in my profile in the about section.
is there a version of stardust speedway present (JP) without lyrics?
No. There's not lyrics on the Japanese Stardust Speedway Zone Present track (as far as I know), and if you refer to the casual Vocals on the song, they make part of the song itself.
Sonic CD is always a goated OST but man the loop points on a majority of these songs need work
Sounds fine to me but might just a be a case of not being used to loops for SCD.
The compositions were never meant to loop and in fact often dont even have proper endings in the games and instead some short nasty fade outs. They really dropped the ball on this soundtrack and never released proper full uncut mixes and compared to the old crappy fade outs, the loops are way better even if not perfect in a few cases but I guess its one of the you have to deal with what you have situations.
Wish they would let the composers do official releases with properly programmed endings or something but it has been 3 decades and the japan anniversary ost was crap so I guess its not gonna happen. Shame that one of the best Sonic soundtracks is treated like that.
