Description

Top Gear Rally is a 1997 racing video game developed by Boss Game Studios and released for the Nintendo 64. A follow-up to Kemco's original Top Gear game, it features a championship mode where a single player must complete six seasons of two to four races, as well as a multiplayer mode where two players may compete against each other via a split-screen display. The game's tracks combine both road and off-road surfaces and can be played in different weather conditions, including night, fog, rain, and snow. Players may customize their car with different tire grips and adjust its suspension stiffness and steering sensitivity. An option that allows players to custom paint their cars is also included.

Music composed by Barry Leitch.

I loved this soundtrack so much that I looked into ripping the music from Top Gear Rally 2. Unfortunately, it's made of procedurally generated songs that never sound the same, kinda like Hyrule Field from Zelda: Ocarina of Time, they never start in the same way, and if we wait until all parts at least sound twice, what we end with is 12 minutes monstrosities of music tracks made mostly of annoyingly repetitive parts that have to play before the loop, due to luck. So no idea what to do with it, maybe just let it be ripped by someone else more capable, or wait for an USFRip version, or play them over and over until all parts play within 6 minutes, but there's some very rare snippets that won't play again within 20 minutes.
It's a nightmare, you're supposed to be in awe at how it seems to carry on infinite music (but it's just the same song starting from a different point), but instead, what plays has sloppy transitions with parts that are shorter than the other parts, sounding weird, and even samples that crackle because they were badly ripped before putting them into the game, so one wonders if ripping the soundtrack is worth the hassle.

I loved this game. I spent hours upon hours in the car creator. Being able to free hand designs instead of copy and pasting decals as found in today's games still cannot be beat.

Many good memories of this classic. It was a gift from my mom and I played too much. Until today would play if the current emulators fail in emulation of this great game.

Sweet memories of this game. Probably one of the best Racing games on the N64. All the music is great, I can listen to them over and over.
