Taito Grand Prix: Eikō e no License is a racing game. It's notably the first console racing game to feature car tuning to modify your vehicle's performance, and one of the earliest Famicom games to use save batteries. The game has two modes : Free mode and Normal mode. In Free mode, you are given a fixed choice of three cars to race: a Mini, a Ferrari 512 BB and a F1 racing car, all using manual gear. The Normal mode is a career mode where you start your racing career at Rank D with the Mini and a budget of ¥100000. By winning races, you can climb the ranks up to Rank A and earn prize money to buy more cars and parts to tune them. The game ends when you win a Formula One season at Rank A.
