One of the most legendary games known. Super Mario 64 defined a whole new genre: 3D Platformer. It is one of, if not THE most, played video games of all time. On Emulators or now on the PC due to a recent Native port tool that decompiles the game and turns it into an executable. This game has been the talk for many years, and still is. Initially released in 1996, then on the iQue in 2003, followed by a Wii VC release in 2006, then the Wii U VC sometime in the early 2010s. Finally getting included in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars game which unfortunately has been completely discontinued. But it possibly made it into the Switch library anyway.
As the 2020s came, somebody decompiled the games code and reverse engineered it, creating a Windows compatible executable, which opens the doors wide open for more extensive mods that would normally not be possible on the N64.
As of 2025, the game was released on 6 devices, plus a remake on the DS which ALSO received a Wii U VC release (That is quite awkward, the same game TWICE on the same console). A total of 8 releases, and yet the Switch 2 is a likely confirmed console too, making that 7 consoles and 9 releases. This game apparently will never truly disappear, both Nintendo and the fanbase are keeping this game alive and very popular.
Fast Facts: There's also a Shindou version of this game too, which patches out the Backwards Long Jump exploit and adds a Rumble feature, and the regular game can be beaten with 0 stars, but most likely know this information due to YouTube and other sites.
