Spy Hunter is a top-down shoot-em-up driving game developed, manufactured and distributed by Bally/Midway in arcades in 1983.
This game generates its soundtrack in Mono using the A080-91799-A000 variation of the Bally/Midway Turbo Cheap Squeak (TCS) soundboard; a chip used in many Bally designed pinball machines and select Bally/Midway developed games. The game generates its sound effects in hard-pan Stereo using 1 AY3-8910 chip per speaker (2 in total).
Composed by: Bob Libbe; Henry Mancini (Peter Gunn Theme)
Arranged by: Neil Falconer
Fun Fact:
Bally/Midway had intentions of obtaining a license to the James Bond theme for the game's release, programming the song in Spy Hunter prototype cabinets; however, after considering the expense of obtaining said license along with a suggestion from an unknown marketing employee, the company decided to obtain the license to the theme of Peter Gunn to be used, changing the game's soundtrack to include that song instead.
