| Description: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is an action role-playing game, bearing little resemblance to the first or later entries in the Legend of Zelda series. It features side-scrolling areas within a larger top-down world map, unlike the exclusively top-down perspective of the first game. The side-scrolling gameplay and experience system are similar to features of the Castlevania series, especially Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. The game incorporates a strategic combat system, a proximity continue system based on lives, an experience points system, magic spells, and more interaction with non-player characters. Apart from the non-canonical CD-i The Legend of Zelda games, Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, no other game in the series includes a life feature. The side angle is occasionally seen in Link's Awakening and the other Game Boy entries, which rely primarily on the top-down view. | Description: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is an action role-playing game developed by Nintendo R&D4 and published by Nintendo in 1988 — September 26th in Europe and December 1st in North America. Bearing little resemblance to the first or later entries in the Legend of Zelda series, Zelda II features side-scrolling areas within a larger top-down world map, unlike the exclusively top-down perspective of the franchise's first game. The side-scrolling gameplay and experience system are similar to features from Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (which was released in the United States before Zelda II). Zelda II combines many different gameplay features: 1. A strategic combat system. 2. A lives-based proximity continue system. 3. Experience-points/Level-based progression 4. A magic system 5. Increased interactions with non-player characters (NPC's). Apart from "Link: The Faces of Evil" and "Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon", a pair of 2 Philips-published games released on the CD-i platform, no other The Legend of Zelda game utilises limited lives. Gameplay from a side-angle is occasionally used in Link's Awakening and other Game Boy/Game Boy Color The Legend of Zelda entries, which otherwise primarily play using a top-down view. The NES version of Zelda 2 has many changes over the 1987 FDS original, including major audio changes. All songs have been re-arranged on updated Nintendo sound-drivers without the use of the FDS sound channel (due to hardware limitations). Also, select songs from the FDS original either have been replaced or extended for the NES version. Composed by: Akito Nakatsuka (Credited as "Tsukasan") Arranged by: Akito Nakatsuka (Credited as "Tsukasan") Fun Fact: The sound driver for Zelda II was also programmed by Akito Nakatsuka (Tsukasan) and was only used for this game. |
