So, it was a filter applied at the level of the Delix plugin (filters can be applied at several levels within the player), in the end! Sound is no more muffled and I have to thank you for insisting on that, otherwise I would have never realised the issue. I have also applied some equaliser settings, something I am reluctant to do usually because a rip should normally sound neutral. In this case I find it provides some depth to the tunes.
Planning a new version with the usual edits in terms of fade-out, loop, etc. in the next few weeks or earlier.

It may end up being some options to disable. Don't hold your breath but that's what the xmplay author implies in the player's forum.

Thanks for the clarification! Well, I guess this is up to how XMplay plays TFMX files (the file format used by Huelsbeck for the game's songs). I did experiment with the player's equaliser but it's not really the same, as if the stereo separation was not high enough. I don't know how the previous rip was done to get those effects, maybe under an emulator?
I need to investigate further but I'm sorry I don't know how to improve this ATM.

Too bad, then. I can't really do much on that front.
I have noticed some inconsistencies, notably on the loader, which starts indeed quite muffed before the volume goes up. I have identified this was because of the dynamic auto-amplification. Still, I can't say whether this is what you are complaining of.

okay, i said thank you before listening to it, and for a while i didnt want to whine about it again, but im sorry, now its kinda muffled sounding. :(

I hear you folks. I find it sounds better with reverb, that's why, especially with earphones. Sorry it's not to your taste.
If the consensus is for 'no reverb', I could provide it instead.

adding previously lost songs is good and all but why in the world does someone hear "gamerip" and decide to add reverb?

This is a decent rip but I noticed a couple of tracks start a bit too late (e.g. Concerto for Laser and Enemies) or have an error or two (e.g. Freedom having an odd hum at the start). Also not too sure about the added (presumed) reverb.
