It's unnerving that whatever soundfont they were using had similar enough instruments as some tracks on the cd release considering the n64's sound limitations

No, not at all. Airport Infiltration sounds better to me on this port.
n64 has the best songs example:
Koopa Troopa Beach: Mario Kart 64
It doesn't hold a candle to Koopa Beach: Super Mario Kart for the Snes, though.

Ended up listening to that now, and yeah, it is pretty bad; possibly the worst of the soundtrack. I mean, it's not the worst thing I've ever heard, but it could've been way better.
Airport Infiltration is surprisingly accurate to its PC/Dreamcast/PS1 version. I'll have to listen to the rest of the soundtrack when I have time, I'm really curious now.

seriously you think its the worst songs. i liked the andy's neighborhood song. they tried to fit the music with the cartridge console. n64 has the best songs example:
