| Description: Tengen's take,on the original Tetris nes game. | Description: Released in February 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System in US markets, this unlicensed version of Tetris was released by Tengen Inc., an American video game company owned by Atari Games. The gameplay, graphics and sound are all very similar to Atari's arcade port of Tetris, which was released a year prior. Gameplay is similar to the official NES version; the player lays out random blocks on a large board and must line them up together to "clear" them. Up to 4 lines can be cleared at once, and is therefore called a "Tetris". If the gameboard is filled up with these blocks, the game ends. Certain gamemodes include a competitive 2-player gamemode and a co-operative gamemode, where two players, one of them being computer-controlled, work together to clear lines in a wider-than-usual board. Tengen's version of the NES Tetris game was quickly recalled and less than 100,000 copies were ever sold, making it somewhat rare. |
