Not to be confused with Jaleco's arcade beat 'em up named after the same daimyō and released in the same year, Hot-B's Takeda Shingen is a strategy game that follows the famous mustached daimyō's conquest campaign of historical Suruga province during the Sengoku period. You begin the campaign at the same time Shingen took power in 1541 and start with one region out of 13. On the strategy map, you make decisions for your domain such as mine resources, trade with traveling merchants and foreigners or conscript troops. A turn here equals one month. Tactical battles also play out in turns. Shingen himself earns experience and levels up from winning tactical battles, which in turn influence troop performance. Unlike real life, Shingen here does not have to fall on the battlefield in 1573, but rather lives out his old age until 1601, which is your deadline to complete the campaign.
