Description

Super Darius is a shoot em up video game released in 1990 for the PC Engine CD-ROM² by NEC Avenue. It is a port of Darius, and the only attempt at an accurate port of the game for many years, using recordings of music and sound effects straight from the PCB. Its other claim to fame is the introduction of all 26 bosses from the original draft for Darius, some of which were earlier seen on promotional material. Some bosses would later be redesigned and used in Darius II.

Personal Favorites: Area 4 [6], Area 4 Boss [12], Ending [19]

The arrangements for Darius at the core are solid and memorable. However, the synth just feels a bit too rough and it feels like there's something missing. A game like Startling Odyssey I has minimalism with simple instruments but the tracks still feel full, but not quite here. Overall, memorable album, just wish the arrangements were a little more fuller or done with different instruments.
