Sonic CD has perhaps the finest music of any video game in the Hedgehog series. I don't know why the American release replaced the tracks with the generic crap they ultimately placed there, but the Jap version (which was released in English in Australia) has music that is so damn cool I can't put it into words!!

The music in this game is some of the best I've ever heard in video games. The Quartz Quadrant, Tidal Tempest, Metallic Madness, Collision Chaos, and Palmtree Panic music are cool, but the Stardust Speedway music REALLY takes the cake(especially the Present music)!I wonder why the Past music for the zones aren't here.

The special stage bgm is very oldskool rave. I mean break beat style, late 80's early 90's rave. Another example is Tidal Tempest - Bad Future. A few games of this era included some rave influenced tracks, such as Streets of Rage.

Enjoyable. :)

To the guest:

The reason why the past sequence music is not present in the CD tracks are because all past sequence music is completely synthesized by the Genesis/Mega Drive and Sega CD/Mega CD console.

Only the present and future sequences have redbook CD audio that you can play in any ordinary CD player. You will have to record the past sequence music via the hidden sound test menu to listen to them later at your leisure.

I have to agree with you guys the Japanese Sonic Cd music is way more awesome than the American. They should have left the Japanese music on the American release.

The reason there are no "Past" BGMs here as that they were the same in both the US and Japan/EU versions.

I also agree that the original Japanese music should have been kept over the US soundtrack.

The American soundtrack is awesome, Metallic Madness is extremely epic. I never cared for the weird vocals in the Japanese version. The melodies are fantastic, this game and soundtrack were the bomb when I was a kid.

I happen to like tracks from each of the soundtracks. The Japanese soundtrack is great, but the US soundtrack does have some outstanding tracks as well, such as Tidal Tempest. This is my personal opinion, though; to each their own. Anyway, good job to the uploader of these tracks. Great sound quality, and it's easy to find via Google search, but please provide this as a .zip archive so others can download all of the tracks at once. It would be appreciated :)

This soundtrack is the BEST Sonic the Hedgehog soundtrack in the history of Sonic soundtracks!

SOUNDTRACK SOUNDTRACK SOUNDTRACK!

Stardust Speedway Bad Future? Best Sonic song ever.

Ok, I have to give the US Soundtrack a little credit...some songs are ok...but I prefer the JP Soundtrack better.

I love the JP soundtrack. Stardust Speedway Present is BEAUTIFUL, and the Palmtree Panic Present? One Word: Awesome! I have no idea why SEGA made the US Sonic CD`s music different. They replace beautiful tunes with scary crap. Although I do like Quartz Quadrant`s present US theme.

This game has epic music! In fact, the only music in the American version that can even compare to this is Sonic Boom!

I agree about those stupid taking sounds in japan metalic maddness. Plus, tidal tempest good future is kind of boring. I wish Sonic Boom was in all 3 versionss. You can do any thing probably stinks.

This soundtrack is definitely not superior to the US one, and the US one is not "generic crap." They are both good. The guy who composed the American one is the same guy who did the Ecco the Dolphin soundtrack for Sega CD, which is amazing, and unlike any gaming soundtrack I've heard. He's very talented. People just suck this soundtracks's cock over the US one cause they're probably a weeaboo, or are acting like it's worse because of some corporate decision to use a different soundtrack for America. It has nothing to do with the composer most likely. Or his music.

why is there no past songs? they were originally part of this version, america just didn't have time to change them

Best Sonic game in the series, in my opinion. This has the best soundtrack in a game, but it gets beaten by Cave Story.

To tell you the truth, I like the Japanese soundtrack, but when I had a PS2, I got Sonic Gems Collection and it had the American Sonic CD (even though I'm English)... I love this soundtrack (JPN/EU) compared to American soundtrack 'cuz game over theme gives you nightmares. And don't get me started on the game's hidden satanic message! D: Anyways, 9 of 10!

Easily One of the most Overrated soundtracks I've ever listened to. The US version is FAR Superior. The US soundtrack was filled with catchy and atmospheric music, But the Japan Version was just a messy supply of Unimaginative and VERY forgettable tracks. The Different time zone tracks are just the same as all the rest of that zones music, with very minor changes. The only good Track is the final boss theme and Maybe the regular boss theme. Apart from that, this soundtrack is just Dull and Forgettable.

Yeah! the JP/EU Soundtrack baby!
"Work dat sucka to death! Come on now! Work dat sucka to death! H h h h e he he gives up at da same time!
Go (X6) h horray! Aw c'mon now
Bring it baby [idk what is being said; "someones gonna catch up with ya come on?" "Suckers gonna capture the pink hugger?" Something in Japanese? *sigh* whatever... Still, the boss song on this soundtrack is boss, one GREAT rap (not that creepy dark American version)

Cosmic Eternity is possibly my favourite song ever (and Keiko Utouku's voice is cute af) also the rest of the OST is really good way better than the Americrap one).
Love it!

Bad future palmtree panic is the best sonic track to ever grace the earth.
But the other tracks are also fenomenal! I think however that stardust speedway is better in the us ver.

It's ridiculous how people are saying the US soundtrack should have never replaced the JP. They are both great soundtracks, although they both have weak-points. I'm sorry, but Sonic Boom is much better than Toot Toot Sonic Warrior, and people saying the US version is "too generic" are fools that fall for the 'judge-music-by -instrumentatio n' clause, which shows musical incompetence. I like the US soundtrack better because it honestly matches the atmosphere of the game better in most levels, the Metal Sonic race for example (the JP version is anticlimactic and unfitting.) If you want to talk about generic, really the JP version is just that, in respect to VG music. They are both great overall though.

I love the soundtrack of Sonic CD, and there are even a few good US tracks : JP Metallic Madness sounds pretty cool but the US version sounds so much more ominous and dark
