Description

God Panic is a vertically-scrolling shoot-em-up set in a cartoony, anachronistic version of feudal Japan with supernatural elements. There is no in-game background story or plot-advancing cutscenes, with the exception of a wise old man who would sometimes offer the cat-suit-clad hero some help. Creatures from Japanese mythology have gone wild, and it is up to the flying protagonist to defeat them, all the while defending himself against enraged villagers, mechanical cats, homoerotic wrestlers and other grotesque beings.

My Rating: 9/10
Personal Favorites:
Stage 1 [3], Boss 1 [4], Stage 2 [6], Stage 6 [12] (esp. from 1:54 on), Stage 11 [20], Ending [22]
Honorable Mentions: Stage 10 [19]

This album starts slow but then takes off like crazy in Stage 1. The quality stays quite high until mid-album where it sort of peters out. There's some nice rock early on, which devolves into more general video game CD Audio and then just... collapses. Tracks tend to be slow burns- some might be mediocre at first but take off halfway through. It's also worth mention that Stage 10 [19] has a dreamy feeling to it that's worth listening to.
