Monster Lair (TG-CD) (TurboGrafx-16) (gamerip) (1990)

This album really shows the strength of the PC Engine CD's synth. There is a very slight midi-feel to the tracks but this is balanced by some at times exceptional instrumentation (see the guitar scream at 0:57 in Track 11- it sounds like a person yelling at first). Furthermore, this album also incorporate some Latin funk in tracks 7 and 11! Which, if you didn't know, there is actually a strand of Latino-Japanese jazz music (look up Masayoshi Takanaka, for instance). Overall, this is pretty great. 9.5/10.

My favorites were Pentaprism (Boss), Let's Get Hyped Up! (Stage 9, 13), and Take a Rest (Name Entry). I also enjoyed La Arena Sur (Stage 1, 11). Let's Get Hyped Up! makes me think of the artist Jimsaku. It must be that violin over a Latin beat.
