This is a comments thread for the following album: https://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/gauntlet-dark-legacy-arcade-2000
Honestly, the soundtrack for this game is just that ugly and inconsistent quality wise. I had Dark Legacy for the PS2 and it sounds like this in-game. Terrible eq-ing, glitchy stretched samples, inconsistent loudness and it feels like some songs have been compressed to absolute hell and back. It's a great soundtrack (or rather it would have been), but whoever was responsible for mastering it for the game itself (I mean the devs/sound engineers/composer, not the game rippers) just did not do a great job at all.Mountain - Valley of Fire, might be my favorite. Did the arcade version sound this muffled or has no one made a good rip of this game yet?
I had Gauntlet Legends on dreamcast and it sounded like terrible. I guess there is no console port of the game that isn't crap but I want confirmation about the arcade version itself. I am just surprised by this lack of quality control for an expensive arcade machine if indeed the arcade version also sounds muffled and screwed up.Honestly, the soundtrack for this game is just that ugly and inconsistent quality wise. There's only so much a game ripper can do when it's the source material itself that's borked.
I love Valley of Fire! Another couple of honourable mentions would be Castle Courtyard and Haunted Cemetery 2 (probably my favourite one.)
The ugliest song on the soundtrack has to be Alter of Skorne 2 Main - it's an earache but it's absolutely like that in game too. Sounds like the song is being played from a bad phone speaker through a toilet roll tube.
If i had to guess, i'd assume the arcade machine sounded crap as well - given that every port of the legends/dark legacy series has the same inconsistent, ugly music quality. Maybe it wasn't quite so noticeable on the arcade machine's speakers, i dunno.I had Gauntlet Legends on dreamcast and it sounded like terrible.
