Magical Chase (TurboGrafx-16) (gamerip) (1993)

My Rating: 9.67/10
Great:
Azure way [7], Variations on a Ra Melody [15], Ending [17]
Also Good:
You're Restless! [1], Rampish Chase [4], It's Not Debugging [6], It's Not Ice! [11], Waltz of Meditation Part2 [14] (wait for 0:48 then 2:06), Waltz of Meditation Part1 [19]

This is some of the best stuff I've seen done with a native Turbografx synth. In addition to an overall peppy and quick vibe, there are just tons of little tricks that put this album a tier above almost everything else on the console. There's the drop in track 16. The progression and crescendo in Ending [17]. There's even arpeggios littered throughout tracks 15-17. While arpeggios were easy to do in Western synth software and thus became characteristic of the Commodore 64 and Amiga, they're relatively rare in Japanese compositions. Aside from this album, off the top of my head I can only otherwise think of Rusty using them, which is another masterful album.

Anyway, apparently there's a soundtrack release of this album as well.
