The overworld theme from Super Mario World used the following instruments: the "Fantasia" synth and arco strings from the Roland D-50, the oud* and steel drum from the Roland S-50's L-CD1 sample library, and the brass (in low pitch), fretless bass, and pan flute from the Kawai K1r. There was no percussion in the theme, but the open low conga from the Roland R-8 could be added in when Yoshi was being used.
* An oud is a fretless, lute-type stringed instrument typically used in Middle Eastern music.

For me, this soundtrack would be nice for a Nintendo and Sony's SNES CD/"Nintendo Playstation" prototype version of SMW (before Sony and Nintendo's division; that's how the PSX was born btw
