Wasureenu Honoo - Ardor Aeternus (PC-98) (gamerip) (1996)

Oof. So You-En-Tai's Fifth Element has a somber and pretty atmosphere that never feels like it is dragging on and that is championed by its superb instrumentation. This album has echoes of that, with some of that beauty peeking through at points, but it is buried in a sea of mediocre, long, and somewhat boring tracks. Nothing sounds awful and some of the early tracks are good and exhibit wonderful progression, building upon themselves for almost a good three minutes. These peters out though after the first several tracks and the whole thing becomes somewhat pedestrian. In fact, at points the instrumentation becomes somewhat lazy, seemingly (see BGM 025 and BGM 026, for some bad offenders). And the best track, BGM 023, starts wonderfully but then the composer just ruins it with the second half. This is overall just a frustrating album- all the technique is there. The composers know how to make great music. They just missed with this and it is only mediocre. But, still decent. Overall, 7.67/10.

In my opinion.
Great: BGM 023 (only the first part)
Good: BGM 003, BGM 020, BGM 021
