BHK (Unknown): Your theory is basically stealing what happened in the animated series. Whether or not it comes from space, for them to copy exactly what happened in a 90's cartoon seems unlikely.
And yet it seems to be the way it's been geared. Introducing Jameson's son as an astronaut left it completely open for them to use that possibility. Plus the entire belltower scene with Brock and Peter happens in the show too.
