chaywa: I sent my PS2 to Sony to be fixed (same problem as the above, laser wouldn't read), i got a refurbished model which works fine now, it was a little expensive (£55, $100 ish) but this pretty much guarantees a working PS2 for the next few years or so...which is good in my books :)
