Dragon Warrior/Quest has numerous spinoff titles as well.
In any case, just because Dragon Quest sells more in Japan, doesn't mean that if Final Fantasy were to end, the Japanese wouldn't care.
Besides, Final Fantasy gets the treatment it does because it's a more popular series worldwide rather than just in Japan.
