So pretty much, FFXIII is the last time they will use the WE.
That's not to say it's a done deal.
With all the problems the FFXII development team had, they weren't quick to be discouraged.

Don't take up with me, take up with Square. There the ones said it and I don't think there just going to stop working on FFXIII now and put it on a new engine. If they did that they would lose money.

ummm, either you misunderstood the person who originally posted that, or they were just plain lying. you dont need an internet connection to play offline.
