Shamdeo: You kill monsters and instead of getting munny(gil, currency) you get an component(item). You sell that item at a store and you get munny. That's it as far as I know. . .there is some way to combine some loot, but I'm not sure how. . . Inventory > Components > "Combine Components" button.
